Fort Hood Shooting
Posted by watts on Friday, November 06, 2009 (15:51:34) (31 reads)
Not sure if anyone would come to this site to find info but I noticed that it's difficult to find any phone numbers to Fort Hood to find out if your family is ok. Since a lot of people who would be interested in the site also have ties to the military and, consequently, to Fort Hood, I thought I'd post what I've found.
Family Hotline numbers:
toll free: 866-836-2751
local: 254-288-7570
Rumor has it, the phone circuits are overloaded, and I suspect that's a reasonable conclusion given the circumstances. Cell phone towers will be overloaded as well so if anyone is having difficulty contacting family and friends in the Killeen area, that would probably be the reason. Texting may be a little more reliable but even that will take longer than usual.

My Texas Cavalry Medal is here
Posted by watts on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 (02:47:06) (277 reads)
I first wrote about the medal here. The referenced article in that article has since been updated by me to show the new Texas Cavalry Medal, which I was able to pick up and hand out to a few other troopers when I saw them this past drill weekend.

This is a test...
Posted by watts on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 (17:41:08) (198 reads)
Testing something here...ignore my seemingly random post. But, feel free to click on the Google Adsense links, you're helping me keep this site running if you do.
Acid Reflux problem? Here's a helpful acid reflux treatment. I've been using Prilosec OTC instead of Zantac. With Zantac, I was taking 150mg (two pills) three times a day but with Prilosec, I can take just one pill a day and it works a lot better.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma
What the heck is peritoneal mesothelioma? The National Cancer Institute states that: "Malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer, is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the sac lining the chest (the pleura), the lining of the abdominal cavity (the peritoneum) or the lining around the heart (the pericardium)."
Are there treatments? There are three traditional kinds of treatment for patients with malignant mesothelioma:
* Surgery (taking out the cancer)
* Chemotherapy (using drugs to fight the cancer)
* Radiation Therapy (using high-dose x-rays or other high-energy rays to kill cancer cells)
Often two or more of these are combined in the course of treatment.
Domain Registrars
Interested in registering your own domain? Don't use Register.com or Yahoo. Domain registration using Yahoo or Register.com is just not cost effective. There are plenty of registrars out there that can offer full featured services for much less money. I use GKG.net, mostly because they're local (as in College Station), and because they're reasonably priced...$8.95 per year with costs down to $6.95 per year if you pay ten years in advance. Compare this to $30 from Register.com. Once you buy your domain name, you can find yourself a web hosting company for your own personal website and mail server. Buying a domain through GKG.net gives you a free email alias service and for a few more dollars a year, you can get domain parking with a POP3 mailbox.
Life Insurance Quotes
Need life insurance? Consider calling Kristi for a quote. While you're at it, she can probably give you a quote for your homeowner's insurance and car insurance.

A little burned and itching
Posted by watts on Monday, March 07, 2005 (19:02:51) (175 reads)
The Aggiefamily has returned. We spent a week cruising down the Gulf Coast with Carnival on their ship the Elation. Fine dining and sun filled days was what the doctor ordered and we got it. The food was wonderful and there was a lot of it. There aren't many gourmet restaurants that will let you vary from the standard four course menu and order multiple appetizers, salads, and entrees. I did it and am happy to report I actually lost a little weight...probably from the flights of stairs I climbed all week, to include the ones at the Mayan ruins in Progreso. After much whining and crying, we (I) finally convinced Katie to stick her head in the water with her mask and snorkel on and she picked a fine time to do it too. She saw her first real live stingrays as they swam between Daddy's legs while we snorkeled in Stingray Alley in Belize. You must be wondering about the itching by now. I, with my sweet tasting blood, managed to meet all of the sand fleas (or something like that) in Mexico. I came back with nice welts all over me, some of them on my sunburn too. It's great!! I'll heal in about a week since this isn't Iraq with its super bacterias. Photos will be posted, along with some underwater shots once those get developed and scanned. I haven't forgotten about the remainder of the photos from Iraq and our welcome home ceremony. Those will be posted at around the same time.
By the way, if you haven't noticed, I switched over to the new format. I'm still working out some of the theme bugs. The old Aggiefamily theme I used isn't entirely compatible with this new format so I have some tweaking to do. If you happen to see an annoying dragonfly logo at the bottom right of the site, you're not crazy. I see it too and it is getting on my nerves too. That will disappear once I look at the stylesheet and figure out where it's coming from. If you don't see it, it's because the site won't switch over to the correct theme and you're seeing the improperly formatted Aggiefamily theme. I also added a Google Adsense block. It probably won't earn me anything, but's it actually kind of amusing to see what it digs up as "targeted" ads for my site. I'm easily amused, so sue me.

Blackhawk Down update
Posted by watts on Friday, October 17, 2003 (13:50:20) (286 reads)
Delta Force Blackhawk Down has a new update available. I'll post a direct download link soon. You'll need to update to this version if you want to play multiplayer. I'll also see if I can find a No CD patch for the new update. If I find one, I'll replace the download in the Downloads section.

Thanks to Jimmy, the RSS feed for this site is actually worth subscribing to now. Jimmy modified the backend.php file so that it would not only display the title of the "article" but also the content of the "article". Now, if you have a news aggregator (I use FeedDemon), you can add subscribe to the feed from this site by adding http://www.aggiefamily.com/backend.php to your list of subscribed sites.

Site News
Posted by watts on Friday, October 10, 2003 (12:37:18) (170 reads)
I have the site moved but can't seem to get Squirrelmail working right. I'll have to get "the Consultant" to look at this and get it up and running again.
I have also added a new block with a PayPal donation button. If you enjoy using this site, feel free to send a couple of bucks my way to help with the cost of hosting it.
Update:
The "Consultant" worked his magic and Squirrelmail is up and running. He even upgraded it for me.

The Federal Trade Commission came out with some extraordinary news today. This agency which is funded by tax dollars announced that most spam you receive is deceiving and misleading. See this link for more info.
