Thought Provoking Advance Directives
Posted by watts on Thursday, March 24, 2005 (03:37:49) (229 reads)

I don't envy those making the decision regarding Terry Schiavo. Putting myself in their shoes, I can't imagine what I would do. The thought of someone close to me, or even me, being in a vegetative state is sobering but I made my decision a few years ago when I was drafting my will for my first deployment into a combat zone. I can't stress enough about the importance of living wills/advance directives.

Two excellent essays regarding the Schiavo case:

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. ...
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight,
nothing which is more important than his own personal safety,
is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless
made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day;
teach that person to use the Internet and they won't
bother you for weeks.
